Facial Trauma

Dr. Wallace provides routine on-call coverage for Grand River and St Mary’s General Hospitals. The majority of patients seeing Dr. Wallace for this treatment are referred from these or other community hospitals.

Treatments in this area can include;

  • Mandibular fractures

  • Maxillary fractures

  • Dentoalveolar fractures

  • Facial lacerations

Many of these treatments will take place at our local hospitals, but some postoperative care will take place at the office. Some of these procedures may be covered by provinicial health insurance (OHIP) while others may not. Dr. Wallace and his staff will ensure you have a full understanding of what will and will not be covered.

What can I expect through the course of my treatment?

Consultation

Whether completed in the hospital or at the office, Dr. Wallace will spend the time required explaining the nature of the injury, the finding of his physical examination and the results of any additional testing or imaging that was completed.

Surgery

Typically the majority of this surgery will be completed at the hospital on an “on-call” basis. Unfortunately, provincial health insurance (OHIP) does not cover the cost of procedures completed in the office and therefore the surgery will be completed when the hospital is able to make time available to you.

Post-Operative Care

If you are admitted to the hospital, Dr. Wallace will round daily and arrange follow-up in the office following discharge. If the procedure is completed in-office, expect a follow-up call the day after your surgery as we would like to ensure that you are comfortable and taken care of.  However, in some instances, it may be necessary to return to the office for a post-operative exam.
