Pre Surgery Check List

Before your surgery, please review the following checklists. There are separate checklists whether you are receiving General Anaesthesia or an IV sedation. Please note that there is no checklist if you are receiving a local sedation (ie. freezing).

Your surgery may be cancelled if you do not follow these rules of safety. A cancellation fee will apply if sufficient notice of 2 weeks without medical reason is not given.

General Anaesthetic Sedation (In-Office)

On the day of surgery please return a completed pre-anesthetic questionnaire and physical report when you present for surgery. Failure to do so may result in the cancellation of your surgery.

  • Do not take Aspirin within 10 days prior to your surgery (Tylenol is okay)

  • Please have nothing to EAT after midnight the night before your surgery. Dr. Wallace will inform you on if and how to take any medications.

  • Do not drive home. Patients are not allowed to operate a motor vehicle or hazardous machinery for 24 hours following surgery. You must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Do not arrange to return home alone, by walking, taking a taxi or bus. Reflexes are slowed down for at least 24 hours after a general anesthetic or heavy sedation.

  • If you have a cold, sore throat, flu etc… the day before your operation, please call our office, during the COVID 19 pandemic, you will be contacted to complete a screening questionnaire.

  • Please leave all valuables (cash, rings, earrings, necklaces) at home. Bring only a minimum of personal belongings.

  • Please remove all nail polish, make-up, jewellery and contact lenses before coming for your surgery. ALL JEWELLERY INCLUDING ALL BODY PIERCINGS MUST BE REMOVED BEFORE SURGERY.

  • Wear comfortable clothes (ie. track pants)

  • Ensure you allow yourself plenty of time to arrive at the office at your scheduled time- due to social distancing requirements arrival times are very important to ensure your surgery can go forward as planned

  • Most patients require a recovery period following the completion of their surgery. Please make sure your ride is available to pick you up at the arranged time after your surgery.

IV Sedation (In-Office)

  • Do not take Aspirin within 10 days prior to your surgery (Tylenol is okay)

  • Please have nothing to EAT after midnight the night before your surgery. Dr. Wallace will inform you on if and how to take any medications.

  • Please have a responsible adult available to take you home after your surgery. They should come into the office for instructions. You are considered intoxicated for 24 hours following your surgery. Therefore you cannot operate a motor vehicle, hazardous machinery or consume alcohol for 24 hours following your surgery. Consequently, you must have a responsible adult stay with you for the remainder of the day

  • Please do not wear fragrances or jewellery

  • Wear comfortable clothing (ie. track pants).

  • Please remove all nail polish, make-up, jewellery and contact lenses before coming for your surgery.

  • Please arrive at the scheduled time of your surgery
